The Second Law of Thermodynamics and how it relates to the independent cigar broker.

“The Second Law of Thermodynamics states that, within any system, nothing ever remains the same. Change is constant.  Obviously, if energy or matter is added or removed from a system, it changes. However, even if we leave a system completely (sic) alone, it changes; it deteriorates over time.” (Google)

Question.  Does this include human beings?

Answer.  Yes.

The above is brought to you from my reading too much (if that is even possible).  Point.  Craig Raine (Emeritus Fellow in English at New College, Oxford)  states in his article in the April 7th edition of the Times Literary Supplement titled, “Global Warning,” that despite what we may think, everything has an end.

Which got me thinking.  Everything?

“(The) Second Law of Thermodynamics is very important because it talks about entropy and ‘entropy (or the state of disorder) dictates whether or not a process or a reaction is going to be spontaneous.’”  (Google)

Hmmm.  Spontaneity.  Like thinking on your feet spontaneity or, say, spontaneous human combustion spontaneity?    Both have radical ramifications.  One is positive and the other negative.  Moot.

So I’m visiting an account and what?  I go in to introduce a cigar brand.  I think on my feet to make a sale or I completely and suddenly disappear into a pile of dust to be swept up until another rep drops by.  (I doubt that the manager would be affected, ashes from cigars splatter on the floor all the time – rep or cigar.  No big deal.)

Ergo, taking into consideration that “everything” will eventually die off, the question then is raised – when?  To that, there is no set answer.  No exact resolution.  No concept of time.  So we (you, me, I) exist within the Second Law of Thermodynamics by design (default?) as a result of simply being matter and energy in the first place.

In short, everything can be spontaneous and is disposable at some point at some time.  So, as Alfred E, Neuman once so aptly was quoted to say, “What, me worry?”  Smile.

Next stop.
